As the deadline for the first meet was approaching very quickly, every brawling team was practicing very hard to make sure they were prepared. Following the fiasco at the Sports and Learning Complex, a considerable number of teams trained a lot harder than usual since they were intimidated by Noland, Tank, and Tracy's strength; they believed that three people beating that many brawlers by themselves was shaming to their own skill levels and sought to raise it. The Subterra Bakugan had completed the reconstruction of the school's battle arenas well into late September, which gave a small window of time to use them as training grounds. Nevertheless, they were used in replacement of the favored arenas at the Complex while they served their punishment. Many students at school occasionally watched their practice regiment, which made the atmosphere quite stressful when the looks on their faces sent out the message, "You'd better not lose."
It was two days before showtime when Tank pulled Noland to the side to have a conversation with him in private. He began to ask Noland questions regarding how he dealt with losses in his life, particularly that of his father and Alana. Noland assumed that Tank was constantly reminded of his deceased friend, John Whitmarsh, who battled alongside him as long as he could remember, and it made him doubtful knowing that his friend wasn't going to be there anymore. Noland told the senior that the best way that he was able to handle the tragedies was to constantly strive to create a brighter future and to focus on making sure what happened in the present will not happen again, which he believes is the reason why he is able to keep his composure against Terrorists like Daniel despite getting tired of doing so. Tank reluctantly took this advice and stated that he would have preferred having his friends by his side at the time, but noted that this team had great potential and wanted to see it through to the end; he thought that's what John would want him to do: to win the championship in his honor. Noland understood this and said they would make both John and Steve proud by achieving what very few can do.
On the final day of practice, Tank spoke with Noland and Tracy on a particular matter regarding how things worked. He used his knowledge of the competitive scene to inform his new teammates on how it was structured and what is expected of them. The regular season consists of meets that are held in various sports complexes across the area. Each team is placed in a particular heat based on random selection rather than skill-based matchmaking just to expose the weaker teams. Two teams from a heat with the highest stats will move on to the next stage and the process repeats, but only one team from a heat will move on this time. The number of teams would be small by then, so they would move into a grid format where two teams are matched against each other, and the winner of a match advances until a winner is determined. The winners of these meets are potential candidates for invitation to the state tournament; however, Tank stressed that the national title is not solely based on how well the team places as selection is based on the individual, so someone who doesn't win a state championship can end up in the national tournament. The meet scheduled for the next day would mark the beginning of the opening round that will continue for a couple of days or weeks until everything has been decided. Likewise, Markus did the same routine for Allen and Karen, but told them not to worry since they would not see Noland or Tank in the meet they are participating in since they are not in the same area of Maryland as each other.
The day of the meet came and was going to be televised. Noland's grandmother informed him that her and Kendrick would have attended the event personally, but was going to settle with the tv since there was some work that needed to be done and wouldn't have been able to do it there. Noland understood this and asked for them to keep him in their prayers since he was paranoid about another Terrorist attack, and this was a perfect time for one to happen. Regardless of this fear, the Colts went to the Sports and Learning Complex to attend the meet. The coach and Noland agreed to have the starting lineup in the following order: Tracy as the first, Tank as the second, and Noland at the third. They figured Tracy was gaining enough power to hold her own in battle against tougher opponents, so they allowed what was their weakest link to battle first. If she should ever be beaten, Tank would go in and exert his dominance as champion. If a miracle ever happens for someone to defeat Tank, they deploy their secret weapon, the legend himself; the third brawler was never going to be broken.
Markus's team went to a sports center in Southern Maryland to compete in the event. The strategy with their lineup was identical to Noland's with a few changes. It was an indisputable fact that Allen is most likely the strongest brawler on the team. Regardless of that fact, Markus did not place him last in line. His order was like the following: Karen as the first, Allen as the second, and Markus as the third. Karen was the most versatile brawler on the team with the most unpredictable moveset, so she would be more than capable of sweeping an entire team. If this did not happen, Allen would step in and easily crush all momentum that enemy teams would ever have. If by chance there is someone who can bypass the legend's defense, then Markus can clean up whatever was left of the opponents since there was zero chances of his strength being matched by just one brawler unless it was someone like Noland or Tank.
The meets started at the same time and featured epic brawls across the region. While Noland's team was performing exceptionally well with Tank and Noland not having to make an entrance yet, Markus's team was not as fortunate to have that luxury. Karen had gotten disqualified from attacking an opponent continuously after the battle was already ruled in her favor, which angered Markus. Allen did not care since he was looking for the chance to step back in the competitive world. He entered the battle against the enemy team's second member and defeated him in one blow. All that was left was a girl named Lian Fennika, a fellow Subterra user. She was her team's last hope for a win. As she prepared to throw in her Bakugan to battle Gorem, she declared that his legendary prowess would not matter after she was finished showing him who the true legend was.
