Back when I created the Sages Reborn RP, I had an idea of how it would end. Unfortunately, it was never brought to that end. So I typed it up. This is it. How it all ended for the Sages, Lyonelle Fermin and Arezetzo Krawler. It's also a little bit of an early Christmas gift to you all. (I ask that this be locked.)
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
As Rez felt the seals begin to break, he had Houston get everyone in Gimnasio to safety and then gathered their group at an empty field outside the city.
Upon arrival at Memorial Field, Rez pulled Houston aside, Lyonelle resting on his shoulder. “Houston, we’re going to need Lye and his Bakugan in this fight. To do that, I have to leave you all to go to the Sage Dimension. I hope to return before our enemies arrive, but in the event I’m not back…I’m going to leave a spell circle on the ground here. Pass some of your aura through it and then just focus on fighting. Alright?”
“I got it, Rez. Try not to take too long though. Might win the fight without you” chuckled the Gimnasian king, “It’ll be good to have you back, Lye”.
At this, Lye raised his head. “Yes. Yes it will. I like cats…but I never wanted to be one”.
After inscribing the spell circle upon the ground, Rez and Lye disappeared into a dimension hole to the Sage Dimension. The two Sages sought the Council of Sage Elder Spirits help in returning Lye to form. As they were doing so…
…”Hey, Houston. Where’d Lye and Rez go?” spoke Ryek Marachion, the strongest Aquos brawler Rez knew, “I mean, Rez gave us a bunch of warning about these guys were going to be fighting and the just disappears on the eve of battle?”
With a small grin to his old friend, Houston replied, “He went to get Lye back to fighting form. They left a way to let them know if--”
Houston was cutoff as the ground shook and the entirety of Memorial Field was wreathed in black flame. As Ryek and Houston looked to find the source, 3 blasts of purple energy knocked Shiragari Yonaka, Nakamura Takashi, and Carson Michaels to the ground and kept them immobilized.
“Look at this, Slanterix! These idiots think they’re tough shit, yet they got knocked down in one blow! PATHETIC!” rang out a rough female voice over the field.
“Now, now, Esterex, do calm down. We’ve been asleep for quite some time and I’d very much like to have some fun with these humans before we kill them.” The calm, intimidating voice came from somewhere above the group of brawlers.
A human, approximately 17 years of age, was walking out of a black Dimensional Hole. “Slanterix, Esterex. What did I say about waiting for me? Oh, never mind. Kill them.” The boy’s tone of voice and general appearance were reminiscent of Rez when he ruled over Gundalia, back during a time when the Galaxy Titans were still relevant.
Meanwhile, in the Sage Dimension….
“So you can’t help?”
“I’m afraid not, Grandmaster. If there were something we could do, would you not be able to do it yourself?”
“That requires…You know why I can’t do that.”
“Alright, alright, we understand. Let’s go.”
Back in the Terra Dimension…
“Dammit, Rez, I used your spell circle, now where are you?” cursed Houston under his breath, “Ryek! Are you alright?”
Houston and the Aquos brawler were engaged in a melee with the boy, who revealed his name to be Luke, while Sol and Barracudas dealt with dark dragon, Slanterix, and the black wolf, Esterex. Luke deflected practically all of their attacks with little effort. As for Sol and Barracudas, they were immensely powerful in their own rights but everything they threw at their opponents just seemed to…encourage them.
Giggling, Esterex taunted Barracudas, “Thanks for the bath, now fight for real!”
As the fight raged on, it seemed Houston and Ryek were going to lose. Luke launched a counterattack, sending a black and red blast of energy at the weakened brawlers. Trying to quickly prepare a defensive spell, Houston threw his hands up only to find the blast already blocked.
“Come on now, Houston. Surely you don’t--“ a cough cut off their would be protector as the energy tore a hole through his chest, “Well…that’s…problematic…” Rez fell to the ground; the pendant containing Sage Dimensia disappeared, along with his staff.
Houston quickly went over to his friend, “Dammit, Rez! You’re always doing this. Why can’t you just stay alive for once instead of sacrificing yourself for our sake?”
At the mention of the name Rez, Luke burst into laughter, “You mean that shriveled old man is what has become of my father?! Oh that is precious. What happened to your power old man? A blast like that should’ve been trivial for you to block.”
Rez looked to Houston, “Don’t worry…I’ll come back. Always do, right?” chuckling, Rez turned to dust.
Lyonelle, still trapped as cat, solemnly sat by the pile of dust that was once his closest friend. ‘You idiot…’
Houston stood and glared at Luke. “Alright, that’s it. I’ve had enough of this.” Houston donned the Universe Armor and drew his weaponry. “Now we fight for real.”
“Good! Let’s see what the Universe Gate and Key are really capable of!” was Luke’s reply as he created a sword from dark magic and rushed Houston.
Back at Rez’s temple, Sage Dimensia and the Staff of the Grandmaster appeared before a meditating gentleman. The man’s robes were tattered, the color faded. He was gaunt, barely any muscle or fat visible under his wrinkled skin. Reaching forward and taking hold of sword and staff, the man uttered but 3 words, “It is time…”
Over and over again did Houston and Luke meet in a clashing of steel against steel and spell against spell, exhausting their reserves of stamina and arcana.
“You’ve…got…no…chance” Luke managed to get out between breaths.
“Yeah…right” came Houston’s reply.
Lye felt his entire being stand on end as a Dimension Hole opened and an immense power none of them had felt before could be sensed coming out of it. Turning towards it, he watched a frail, elderly, robed man, with beard and hair to his knees, step out carrying Sage Dimensia and…Rez’s staff? ‘It can’t be…’
The newcomer walked over to Lye, knelt down and scratched behind his ear. “Hello, old friend. I doubt you recognize me but I know you. You may wish to get out of the way.” The old man’s left eye lit up with a familiar purple, the next second Luke was blasted away from Houston.
The old man appeared in front of Houston as if he’d just suddenly begun to exist in the point of space-time. “Stand back, Houston. I told you I’d be back.” With that, Rez charged at Luke, forcing the young man into combat once again.
Watching the two fight, Lye jumped onto Houston’s shoulder and spoke to him telepathically. “So this is Rez’s real power…”
“What do you mean?” inquired the bewildered Houston.
“This isn’t my first time seeing Rez like this…he looks to be in a worse state since the last time though. As Rez explained it, 6975 years ago when Luke, Slanterix and Esterex turned into the dark beings before us now…he was tasked with eliminating them. As you can see, he didn’t. He just sealed them. For doing so, he was cursed to be reborn from death, accumulated power remaining within his soul until his mind reformed to share the burden. At some point, his power became too great for his body to contain properly, so he created a shrine that, while meditating within, would help keep his body from tearing itself apart. All the incarnations of Rez we interacted with were him placing precentages of his power and his entire mind into someone else, effectively possessing them.”
“So this old man before us is Rez with 100% of power?”
“Yes, though I don’t know how long he can last outside of his shrine.”
As Lye explained Rez’s state to Houston, Rez felt himself slipping. He was losing it, and soon he wouldn’t be himself. Trying desperately to finish off Luke, he launched a large magical attack that sent Luke flying for some time. “That should do it…” Rez dropped his sword and staff, doubling over and clutching his head in both hands. “Can’t…hold it…”
Lye and Houston sensed Rez’s power swelling, as did Slanterix and Esterex who dashed away from their battle to try and capitalize on this. In a flash of light, they were impaled upon spikes coming off of Rez’s aura. “…Children.” In another flash, the two Bakugan disappeared.
Houston called out to his friend, “Rez…you’ve won. You can stop now.”
Allies vs Rez - Is This The End?
“Stop…? No, I don’t think I will.” Lye, Houston, Ryek, Shiragari, Nakamura and their Bakugan were lifted into the air by energy the same purple as Rez’s aura and his left eye. 4 stone slabs created a box around them…and they were all repeatedly slammed into the walls. After 5 minutes of this, Rez returned them to the ground with a thud. Houston managed to push himself up onto his hands and knees, only to see the barely twitching form of Lye in front of him.
Lye’s telepathic speak was weak but Houston could tell it was being directed to him and Rez, “Rez…you’re stronger than this. Don’t….let it…take you over. Remember the ones you swore to protect…remember who you are…remember…your…frien…” Lye’s lifeforce gave out before he could finish…
Luke’s laughter rung out across the field, “Good job, dad! You killed someone. Tell me, how did it feel?”
There was no response…a breeze swept over the field carrying the song of birds. After a few minutes of nothing being said, Luke broke the silence, “Did you die old man?”
Rez vs Luke - True Power
Rez spoke, “It’s a beautiful day outside, birds are singing, flowers are blooming…on days like these…kids like you, Luke…” Rez turned his gaze to Luke, his eyes alight with crimson energy, his voice taking on a darker, more violent tone, “SHOULD BE BURNING IN HELL!”
Rez unleashed the same attack he had just used on his friends on Luke, following it up by shoving his right hand into a small dimension hole and creating a sphere of similarly sized dimension holes around Luke. “NOW, DIE!” Rez unleashed a large beam of energy from his right hand…the beam came out of every dimension hole surrounding Luke.
As the smoke from Rez’s attack cleared, Luke was revealed to be in a bubble shield, though he was visibly damaged. “That…all you…got?”
Gripping his blade once more, Rez charged Luke in the blink of an eye and began a relentless assault. Luke took a few too many hits from Sage Dimensia and fell to a knee, looking up at his father, “So you’re finally going to kill me?”
“Yes…” at that, Rez raised his blade to deal the final blow…yet it fell behind him and stuck into the ground. Rez’s body was done, his power too much for it to contain. ‘Damn…well…I guess I did push it…’
Sage Dimensia turned into a pendant once more and Rez’s staff returned to his shrine. Rez collapsed and a crimson ringed with purple flame rose out of the disappearing body. Luke destroyed this flame with a spell and grinned at Houston, who was getting to his feet. “Told you that you didn’t have a chance.”
Houston felt a warm sensation around his neck. Looking down, he saw Sage Dimensia. Rez and Lye spoke simultaneously inside his mind, “It’s up to you to finish this, Houston…”
Houston vs Luke - Final Bout
“Right.” Houston took hold of the pendant and spoke the incantation told him by the Sages, “I call upon the blade within, merging my power with that of the Sages of old. Grant me that with which I can vanquish my foes. Sage Dimensia!” Taking its true form, Sage Dimensia seemed to glow with the auras of Rez and Lye. When Houston spoke, his voice resonated with that of Rez and Lye. “Now then, we’re ending this. Now.”
Houston rushed Luke, who grabbed his sword and locked the two into another fierce melee combat. After nearly an hour of fighting, Houston knocked Luke’s weapon away and thrust Sage Dimensia into the boy’s chest. “You lose.”
With the battle won, Houston quickly tended to those Rez had injured in his rampage. Once everyone was on their feet, another breeze crossed the field, blocking their vision for a few seconds with lotus and cherry blossom petals. When the petals cleared, the spirits of Rez and Lye stood before them. Lye looked as he had when they first met and Rez as he did when he was reborn after his death at the hands of Houston ending his reign as Gundalian Emperor.
“You did it, Houston! Nice!”
“I knew you would. We’ve been granted a chance to say our goodbyes.”
Houston chuckled lightly then sighed, “So you’re truly dead then?”
“Yup, I never had the ability to be reborn so…”
“With the reason for my being cursed no longer existent, I’ve been freed of the cycle of rebirth. Thank you, Houston.”
“Hey now…Don’t forget about me” came a protest from Ryek.
“Of course not. I don’t know if Houston could’ve held them off without you and Barracudas.”
“Well, you may be right.”
“Houston…if you could…take Sage Dimensia and seal it away. Go to my temple, collect my staff, and seal it away. You think you can do that?”
“Yeah, Rez. And I know just how to seal them…”
The breeze began to come back.
“Well…this is goodbye. Be well, my friends. God Speed.”
"Aw, Rez, you totally stole what I was gonna say!”
The breeze covered their vision again, “BYE GUYS. STAY ALIVE. BE GOOD PEOPLE.” And with that…the Sages were gone.
Houston followed the last wish of his friends. In the Hall of Heroes of the Gimnasian palace, a statue was erected of Rez and Lye. Lye standing in a combat ready stance with a sword and Rez with his staff held to his side, hand outstretched as if casting a spell.
