"Raising on one elbow, I looked out my window into the murky depths surrounding my father's fortress. I had never seen pure light, well, I guess I should say I had never seen pure daylight. There were lights in the fortress but they were mostly the lantern fish we had sealed in the walls, or the glowing crystal coral. It was what we considered morning, when the water changed from black to a dark greenish blue. I was determined that I would get away from this place someday. My father was a legendary hero of some sort to my family line, but I had never been accepted by any of the family. The only thing that I had going for me was my name. It was the name of the Greeks' god of the seas and oceans. He was known by many as Neptune, but that was the Romans' name for him and since we lived off the cost of Sicily, my parents wanted to give me a more exotic name. So they named me after a fake god. Sounds great right? Well, it would be, if you weren't a scrawny kid who has no resemblance to the mighty mythological figure we had driven into our heads since the time we were old enough to listen. I had never believed that the stories were real and that only made things worse for me. I was made fun of constantly as the "puny god" or the "unbeliever". I sat up. I had to leave. It was my only hope to get anywhere.
"That was five years ago. I still can't believe I actually managed to make it to the surface from that depth. I was a scrawny boy with no plan but to swim until I had no more strength. I mean, being able to breath water as well as air helps a lot, but still, there are many dangers in the Mediterranean Sea. I am also kinda surprised that my father's guards didn't stop me when I approached them with the crazy story that I, basically the prince of my people, had been sent out to find some new lights. They let me out though and I haven't been back since. I guess the hero of the people still couldn't have the best guards or maybe they actually had a little fear for me, but I doubt that.
"Anyway, I swam up to the surface. and managed to get to a small island not too far away. Like I explained earlier I had never even been that close to the surface so the sun blinded me when I came up. It took me a few days on the island to become accustomed to the brightness, even at night, there was often more light than we had in the daytime at the bottom. During this time, I swam and fished while living on whatever I found. Thankfully, since I had lived in the sea my entire life, raw fish didn't bother me as it would bother a human. And if I wanted I knew sea cooking techniques, nothing land people would understand though.
"As I sat under a tree with my mind wandering on to what to do next, the water shattered into glimmering shards, scattering themselves across the beach and a shiny creature lifted itself above the surface. Oh, I knew I was forgetting something. Yeah, I had a Bakugan my father had given me at some point in time. It was a Phosphos but I had never gained a connection with it. Also it was only because he hated Bakugan that I had it. Now, before me rose a great creature, a dragon of incredible appearance and I assumed incredible strength as well. The air crackled and I fell back, expecting to be destroyed in an instant...
"I woke at some time later, I can only assume it was a couple of hours later, all I knew, was that I had been tested by the dragon and had been found worthy to step out alongside him to fight. Beside me the Bakugan sat in ball form, merely waiting for me to awaken and get my bearings.
"So I met Blue Thunder Dragon and began my walk as a Brawler." I stopped and turned to the man sitting beside me. I had never told so much of my story to any before, but I had told this caped man whom I knew nothing about. Was this wise? Maybe not, but only time would tell...
