Dragonus somewhat kept his footing during the earthquake. Since it was already difficult to move around during this disaster, he was crushed by the rocks. This would be catastrophic for most Bakugan, but Dragonus didn't fall into that category. He broke out of the debris in ball form. It was worth noting that Dragonus was covered in a red, electric barrier. This was his Achron-empowered shield.
The shield itself converts damage into the Achron system for gauging power. Achron doesn't use G Power like Bakugan do. They use what's called K Power. The barrier is designed to absorb Ks up until a certain amount. When the barrier has enough, it will go down, and Dragonus will be vulnerable to damage. The shield will regenerate after Dragonus avoids damage for a certain period of time. Additionally, Dragonus is immune to debuffs while his shield is active.
"Defense is on point, like I imagined. I like that," Calvin commended. "Dragonus, activating a ghost ability: Aquos Battle Audience!" 'Ghost ability' is a familiar term to WC veterans. It refers to an ability that can be played even if you're prevented from using them.
Dragonus' primary attribute changed to Aquos. He shot a sky-blue grenade out of the arm cannon. When it detonated, the entire arena grounds were changed into a pristine pool. Dragonus then elongated his arms to attack Gorem from different angles. While doing so, Dragonus swam like a shark in zigzag lines towards Gorem.

"...Gorem, are my eyes deceiving me? Didn't we prevent him from using abilities?" Allen asked in confusion.
"Yeah, but let's worry about that later. Swimming's not really my thing," Gorem complained. Unlike what many would expect, Gorem was keeping himself afloat in the water. The only reason why was because of Gorem's fitness while learning to master the Advanced Fusion Ability; otherwise, he'd have sank to the bottom.
Gorem propelled himself upwards by pouring energy into his feet like jetboots. He wasn't a fast flyer, so he floated close to the surface of the drink. That's when got smacked by Dragonus' hands. Gorem parried a lot of the attacks, but he was being pushed back.
"So, he has loopholes to preventions, can change the arena whenever he wants to, and somehow got out of that without a scratch," Allen summed up. "Imma go with Gigalith Boxer for now. That okay, Gorem?"
"Never thought I'd say this, but I don't know," Gorem expressed. He got in a boxer's stance as he jetted side-to-side. He guarded and avoided many of Dragonus' attacks, and then tried to push the envelope on his own. If Dragonus wanted to get close, Gorem would happily oblige. Gorem charged towards Dragonus in earnest to show him how it's done.

While Gorem was occupied, Dragonus figured he'd go for Gorem directly with a huge attack. Calvin thought along the same lines.
"Activating Darkus Blow!" Calvin played. A sinister aura of darkness washed over Dragonus. There were two layers to this aura: the first being a light purple that outlined his form, and the second as a dark purple cloak that flowed like stormy waters. Dragonus rolled into a ball and intended to ram Gorem.
Now, it was the unstoppable force from a rolling ball vs a punch from a titanic opponent. Who wins? Calvin thought he had a decent chance of winning that collision. To his surprise, it was a draw. Both Gorem and Dragonus experienced significant recoil from their respective attacks. Their reaction to it was masked to the audience by the tsunami waves their collision produced.
"Huh...a draw... I usually win those... You're tough," Dragonus recognized.
"Let's try Doom Volt!" Calvin suggested. After he tapped the card on his end, he briefly looked through his hand. "Looks like I'll have to play some defense coming up..." Calvin kept to himself.
As for the attack he declared, electricity left Dragonus' body in a sporadic fashion. It made good use of the water in the area to increase the possibility of electrocuting Gorem. The voltage of this electricity was said to be roughly 5 billion volts.

The electric attack reminded him of two people: Tank for the time he zapped Gorem at nationals, and Noland for the synergy Dragonus' abilities has. The electricity flowed through the stormy waters nicely. It formed a curtain of death all over the arena. Gorem was forced to project a shield beneath him using Steadfast Golem, because if he didn't, the metal on his body may have conducted the electricity. Now Gorem has a problem. He can only project the shield in one direction. He'll have to do something else in case Dragonus has another combo at the ready.
"Right back at ya," Gorem said out of respect for his opponent.
"Ability activate. Forgiveness of the Martyr," Allen played. This was a new variant of an underrated ability, Martyr's Plight. This involved Gorem's left gauntlet temporarily transforming into a satellite dish. Unlike the template ability, the signals this one emits doesn't have to attract things towards him. He can direct everything to the opponent instead.
"Sorry. Water's not my thing, but you look like you'd enjoy it a lot more. So, here you go," Gorem returned. All of the electricity surged towards Dragonus.

This was an unintended consequence of Calvin's combo. Dragonus was now subjected to the intensity of his own attack. The ability was forcefully canceled, and Dragonus' shield was taken offline. For the first time in a while, Dragonus was put on his back. He slid across the water for a couple of seconds. The red barrier that Dragonus had flickered off. The damage he took exceeded the amount of Ks the barrier could sustain, so the overall damage leaked into his health. Still, he had a lot of fight left in him.
"Oh man... That hurt..." Dragonus groaned.
"Sorry. That's on me," Calvin blamed on himself. He usually apologizes whenever something happens in battle that he's responsible for. It's a way to communicate with Dragonus that he's paying close attention and will constantly improve. "Activating Darkus Vision."
Dragonus' eyes glowed purple. Three cards from Calvin's hand disappeared, and three specific abilities took their places. This was a risky gamble though. They will be powered up by about 50%; however, once those cards are used, those three card slots will be unavailable for a certain period. This means Calvin will only have three abilities to work with at a time. No matter. He already had a card in his hand that will fix that. He just has to hold onto it as long as he can...

"We heard Calvin say it. Allen's defense is on point," Yuji recognized. "That had to be a very uncomfortable situation for Allen, but he remained calm all the way through. This is how a defensive brawler should behave. I know DeAngelo would be proud to see a fellow defensive mind brawl this well."
"It's still early though. Allen needs to tread lightly so he doesn't end up like DeAngelo," Miko interjected.
Allen was thinking the same thing. Silent Lock and Doom Volt were really nasty. Dragonus even stalemated a physical attack from the strongest Legendary Soldier. The battle may not have started yet.
"Looks like we got 'em on the ropes, but we can't get greedy," Gorem realized. "What you got that can box him in?"
"There's this one I've always wanted to try out. Let's see how it works. Ability activate. Gravitron Seism," Allen played. This was the upgraded version of Gravitron Hydra. Unlike the template ability, this one does something more than just be another Gravitron Ballistae.
Gorem amassed purple energy in his hands like always. This time, purple electricity left both charges and collided in the center of his view. The power surge acted as a gateway for a horde of Gravitron Ballistae-shaped projectiles to swarm the field. They were stationed at every nook and cranny of the field and then remained stationary like mines. That's what they were in a way.
They'll trigger if the victim comes within ten feet. Once he/she does, a pulse from it will stop the opponent in their tracks, and then it will quickly beam the victim downwards and cause an explosion at the bottom. And an earthquake too, hence the name 'Seism'. Unfortunately for victims, this can't be countered in the traditional sense. If contact with any foreign entity, substance, or ability is made, it will 'detonate' instantly. There's also the added bonus of each projectile utilizing potential energy, so depending on how deep this battlefield goes, a single projectile going off will be as close as it gets to how devastating Drago's attacks are.
This was an ideal defensive weapon for Allen: keeping the opponent cornered...unless this ability doesn't work, then everything that was just typed is completely useless.

Calvin wiped his forehead. He was starting to sweat from how intense this was getting. He has rarely faced a challenge this difficult, but he was doing it with a smile.
"Activating special ability, Death End Army!" Calvin initiated. This was not an ability that Calvin got in his hand from Darkus Vision, so this was powered under normal conditions. The vulnerable Dragonus disappeared and was replaced by Drazardon. The sorta disgraced Duelist had a circle of darkness form at his feet. His roar somehow opened a rift far above their heads. The rift performed two functions: summon an army of purple, ghoul-like phantoms, and suck in all of the projectiles on the field. The latter option seemed more economical than the other ability Calvin could've played; however, there was an unforeseen consequence. Each projectile was activated. The potential energy that they had going off at once extended their targeted areas. Drazardon was yanked underneath the water and was subjected to the earth-shattering explosion...
"Wow..." Miko uttered in shock. The barriers were broken, and the satellites had to mitigate the power again. Also, the water was all gone. There was a large crater in the ground. Cameras had to be positioned to look down in it.
"That would've been bad news if we took that attack head-on..." Calvin realized. Dragonus shot straight up in a ball so he could get back to the surface. He went straight for Gorem. Red energy sparked on Dragonus' body, restoring his shields back to full. He looked as if he didn't take any damage from Gravitron Seism. This was because when a 'summon' like Drazardon is damaged, it just shortens the duration of the executed ability and/or cancels the ability outright. Dragonus is never harmed during that process.

Gorem executed his Steadfast Golem to grab Dragonus. He stopped the unbeaten champion in his tracks. Gorem then threw him off to the side. Gorem would've kept him up close, but attacks like Doom Volt exist, and he can disappear and reappear with whoever. It was all getting to be really confusing for both Gorem and Allen. They didn't understand how or why this was happening. Furthermore...
"All that and not even a scratch... This guy..." Gorem muttered.
"Dragonus wasn't damaged by that catastrophe at all..." Yuji noted. "This is incredible... From both sides, really, but it's amazing how Calvin avoided a potential losing situation that easily. We give defensive beasts like DeAngelo and Allen credit for staying calm, but Calvin's right up there with them. We may have to wonder if Gorem can inflict good damage on Dragonus..."

"...This is starting to worry me," Hydranoid spoke up while perched on Alana's head. "That redirection was nice, but...that's all that happened as far as damage. Gorem still hasn't taken any damage, so that's a good thing. Still, based on what I was hearing from this audience, a scenario like this went down with DeAngelo as well until Calvin pulled out the rug from under him..."
"..." Alana couldn't help it. She was getting worried too. She looked to her left. The second seat down - the one next to the person sitting in the middle, Jadyn - Jenna had a worried expression on her face as well. That wasn't a surprise really, but the point was, everyone was worried except for Noland.
"You look surprisingly calm over there..." Alana said in a rather low voice.

"I'd prefer for the camera people to not look at us 24/7 whenever Calvin does something to Allen," Noland shrugged. "Besides, Allen's fine. There was a good chance of Dragonus being defeated if he took Gravitron Seism without any protection. Since he survived it, I have a pretty good idea on how Dragonus' abilities function. Allen's very receptive to things like this, so I know he can figure it out. If Allen and Gorem can hang in there, they'll be in good shape. So, try to relax a little, alright?"
"It didn't look like Dragonus was damaged when Drazardon took the fall against Gorem's ability..." Jadyn observed.
"That's right, so that suggests that Dragonus switching out with another Bakugan means he can't be interacted with until he comes back. That's why Dragonus is still in there," Noland explained. "I'm not really sure how he's doing this, but it seems like he has access to the powers of every brawler who competed here at the very least. Maybe even more. It wouldn't surprise me if a Resistor shows up in his arsenal at all in this fight..."
"There's also his personal barrier..." Drago pointed out. "It looked like Gorem redirecting the electricity hurt Dragonus, but Handicap Buster didn't. I also noticed that the shield regenerated, so Gorem will have to damage Dragonus at the right time or he'll get nowhere."
"Easier said than done... I'll admit that," Noland conceded.

Dragonus rolled out of the ball to stop his momentum. Now Calvin was going to play one of the cards he brought out via Darkus Vision:
"Activating Ninjus!" he played. This was like the Ventus Elemental Tracy summoned earlier, except it was a Darkus shinobi. It appeared on Dragonus' back in a puff of smoke. It was roughly half the size of Dragonus himself and contained less power than Tracy's summon altogether. It made up for the power difference in sheer versatility. His special trait: use defensive abilities that Dragonus can also use himself.
"Shadow Illusion!" Ninjus whispered. About a dozen clones of Dragonus were launched towards Gorem at the same time. These were immaterial. They were only proxies that scouted the opponent. At any time, Dragonus can become one of these illusions and strike with double the power.
"That Gravitron Seism ability was strong... Shame it didn't hit me," Dragonus shrugged. "I won't make that same mistake..."
Dragonus waited until a few clones flew through Gorem, being immaterial and all. He materialized when a clone got right in front of Gorem. Then, in a quick turnaround, materialized in a clone behind Gorem and unleashed a charged shot from his arm cannon.

A smoking golem came crashing down to the ground. He landed alright. His arms were holding him up more than his legs, but he was still alright. No one would think that it hurt him since he stood back up like nothing happened. Deep down, it did.
"Huh...that's like our Vurtious Counter...but better...with more work involved..." Allen pondered.
"I could probably take a couple more of those... Not a good idea, but I could. If we can't get rid of that ninja, then I'll have no choice," Gorem figured.
Allen took a deep breath before making his next move. He doesn't like using this ability, but it's free real estate now. Might as well do this until a better idea comes along. Attacking Dragonus is nigh impossible with Ninjus in play. "Ability activate. Copycat."
He took the generic approach: if you can't beat em, join em. Gorem copied the Ninjus ability. He dug his hand into the ground to grab some earth. He brought form to it by molding a quadrupedal companion: a Quakix Gorem. Why Gorem had to do all of that to call on such a creature was anyone's guess, but at least it looked cool.

Calvin wasn't aware of what Allen specifically did, but by hearing Copycat through the microphone, he knew what to expect. Physically attacking Gorem was a bit risky. A big risk wasn't necessary just yet. Forcing Allen to take one could be huge for Calvin, so he'll give it a go.
"Activating Underworld!" Calvin initiated. This was one of the cards that weren't highlighted in his hand, so this was at normal power. In a similar fashion to Aquos Battle Audience, a smoky veil left Dragonus' body and washed over the arena. The arena itself was now a dark void with a river-like darkness flowing at the bottom where Gorem and his partner were standing. This darkness will quickly drop the opponent's power level to 0 by pulling them underneath. If someone is pulled under, it's more than likely an instant defeat. Calvin was hoping that'd be the case, but if that doesn't happen, he can count on Gorem's movement being hindered, and his power level significantly lowered.
Dragonus flew away from Gorem to get some distance. Calvin did well not to give Allen anymore ammo to use against him. The burden of getting out of this jam is on Allen, because Dragonus is flying high and is more than ready to claim victory.
"This is a bad situation for Allen..." Yuji remarked.
"Maybe not..." Miko optimistically believed. "Whenever things look bad is when Allen really shines... We just have to wait and see..."

"Uh oh... I get the sinking feeling we're about to lose here," Goren noted. Gorem saying that was significant. This doesn't usually happen. What also doesn't usually happen is for the enemy to walk right into Allen's trap.
"Now is as good a time as ever to try this ability," Allen nervously stated. "Ability activate. Magma Prominence." This was a big boy Subterra ability, one that only the most powerful Subterra Bakugan in history have used. A Subterra symbol lit up on Gorem's chest briefly. Then, a brown circle appeared underneath Gorem. Rays of light shone in all directions. The darkness became flowing quicksand, because the ability changes the surroundings to a Subterra environment. Now, if Dragonus were to make contact with the ground, he'd have no traction, and it'd be difficult - if not impossible - for him to escape. On the other hand, Gorem was standing in it just fine, which is likely attributed to his Subterra background.
"I'm getting tired of all of these arena changes and the running around," Gorem complained. He looked up towards Dragonus as the extra effect of Magma Prominence kicked in. The ground rose back up to the original height the battle started with. Once it did, the ground lit up several times. This is because the arena's state cannot be changed again. This is huge, because now Gorem has the terrain advantage after a long time.

"...Huh..." Calvin was getting a little uncomfortable by Allen having answers for everything. This was more than he thought he'd have to worry about. With that creature accompanying Gorem, anything could happen now. Is there a proper move for this situation...?
"Tread lightly, Calvin. This is getting dangerous," Dragonus advised his partner.
"Noted," Calvin responded. "Activating a special ability, Morgana Melody!" Dragonus and his illusions disappeared. Morgana's Naga form and the accompanying illusions took their places. 'Morgana' rattled 'her' tail to cast Rattle Aria. In a similar scenario to Morgana taking control of Hydranoid's miniature heads, 'Morgana' took control of the Quakix Gorem. That was only the beginning. What came next was a neat trick: making the casting body the illusion, and then making another illusion the one in reality. With this method, Morgana Melody could be used again.
"Activating Blazing Barrier!" Calvin doubled down. Before having Morgana Melody activate again, Calvin used this ability. The Quakix Gorem - now an extension of Dragonus' power - was the center of a sun-like sphere. A wave of fire revolved around it. Anyone who touches it immediately has their capabilities cut in half. That's torture enough without accounting for the massive damage the victim will take. This same barrier was formed around 'Morgana' and the illusions.
To finish this move, the 'Morgana' that became real rattled 'her' tail. A green pulse traveled up every single ability that 'Morgana' had active on the field right now. The existing abilities would progress to their most extreme state. What would halve capabilities now takes it all away. Morgana herself would use this against victims already afflicted by her venom. This would effectively end the brawl against her foes; however, it is noticeably strenuous to execute this tune. Only when Calvin executes it with this setup is it worthwhile to use when the chips aren't down.
